National Parks Litter

Week 4: July 15-July 21

Fourth Week Highlights

  • Puppy Pile

The puppies started asserting some boundaries with each other this week. I heard some yelps of displeasure when sleeping puppies were disturbed or when puppies played too roughly.

  • Enrichment: Paper

It’s the little things with these babies. Everything is new and novel. The paper is a different texture for footing, a new sound, and a quick toy.

  • Almost Kibble Time

Last week, the puppies were offered formula twice a day to get them started lapping liquids. This week, they tried formula-moistened kibble but didn’t take to it- so I switched gears to a softer transition with blended kibble/formula.

  • Casual Equipment Intro

During their short sprints of activity, I added some equipment to the play pen. The small blue disc is a puppy-size wobble board. There’s no fear at this age from the unstable surface. I think everyone took a stab at it. To keep these items somewhat novel, I remove them from the pen when either interest fades or they fall asleep.

  • Socialization: Children

The puppies enjoyed some lovely children this week. I am so grateful they have the chance to start with positive interactions with kids.

  • Clean Faces

All puppies got their first clean faces, sanitary trims, and their paw pads trimmed. Love seeing their beautiful faces for the first time!

  • Litter Training cont

I will spare you the photos of their litter training progress! This week was spooky good for litter training. They used the pans ~80% for poo and about half the time for pee. They get a larger play pen next week.
